“Tomorrow spring will come and then
There will be blue skies my friend
Bright eyes and laughter
Tomorrow there will be sun”
Salem Central School’s High School Drama Club will be entering a time loop the first weekend of December as it presents Groundhog Day, the Musical. What began as a movie with Bill Murray in the 1990s was later written as a book by original co-screenwriter Danny Rubin with music and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Tim Minchin (Matilda the Musical).
Each morning, the alarm clock sounds to awaken the cynical Phil Connors, played by senior, Luke Miner to relive the same day over and over again as he goes on an assignment as a TV reporter to broadcast the celebration of the Groundhog Day Ceremony in small town Punxsutawny, PA. He will be joined on stage by the cheery townfolk who honor the groundhog including seniors Maggie Hoge as Rita, Mayson Haywood as Ned Ryerson, as well as, Regan Jackson, Lucy Eldridge, Ava Holmes, Hunter Kenyon, Anna Maxwell, Charlie Ceglowski, Jorgia Carson and many others from Salem’s Junior and Senior High School. Stage Manager and senior, Socrates Fronhofer oversaw a large crew to accommodate the many, quick set changes.
Discover how Phil lives another day that is the same as the day before OR will there be a way to break the loop?
It’s a case of “déjà vu all over again.”
We hope you will join us over and over and over again on December 6 and 7 at 7pm and again on December 8 at 2pm. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors and students, children under 2 are free. Please note - this musical is rated PG-13 and is not recommended for children under this age.
