Listed below you will find information about the National, State, and Local scholarship opportunities that are currently available in the Guidance Office. These opportunities are offered by private corporations and organizations.
The listings will be periodically updated as new scholarship information arrives in the guidance office. In addition to those listed below, the web sites Fast Web , Fin Aid! The Smart Student Guide to Financial Aid , and College View contain information about many additional scholarship opportunities. Take a few minutes to explore each web site. The New York state Higher Educational Services Corporation has a very helpful link for parents in the quest for aid. You can access it at http://startheregetthere.org.
Students and parents are also encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application after January 1st in order to determine eligibility for Federal and State education grants.
Adirondack Paralegal Association - $500 Scholarship for a student pursuing an accredited vocational or academic program. Applications coming soon.
Adirondack School Counseling Association Scholarship - $1500 scholarship for students planning to study human services, sociology, psychology or related helping field. Applications available in the guidance office and are due April 27, 2017
American Society of Civil Engineers- 4 yr, $1,000 scholarship for student studying civil engineering. Applications available at http://www.ascemohawkhudson.org/ . Applications due March 31, 2017.
Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York – (4) $1500 awards. Student related to a firefighter, is a firefighter, or be an explorer in a fire department can apply. Applications available www.firedistnys.com. Applications due March 4th, 2017
Belle Burnett Woman’s Club Scholarship - 4 yr scholarship awarded to a student of sound character with sufficient scholastic aptitude to complete college work. Based on a student’s character, need and scholarship record. Currently a $1000 renewable award and applications are available in the guidance office. Completed applications due June 1st, 2017
Capital District Counseling Association - $1,000 awards for students who live in the capital district and enroll in a capital district college.
Community Foundation Scholarships – Several scholarships (Ad Club, Bebu, Michael Campbell, Down Syndrome Gene Robb Journalism, Ruth Goldstein Music) available based on various criteria. Please check out the website for more information http://www.cfgcr.org/scholarships.php for a full listing.
Dave Vanderzee Scholarship - $500 offered to any student who has faced a serious illness or serious life crisis. Applicants must be enrolled in an educational program the semester immediately following graduation. Applications available at the website bridgingpeople.org. Deadline is April 30, 2017
Donald J. Nassivera Memorial Scholarship and the Bruce Hamilton Scholarship (Washington County Sherriff's Dept) - $500 awards to students planning to study criminal justice. Must show that you have had a positive impact on community. Application available in guidance. Deadline is May 1, 2017
Elk’s Auxiliary Scholarship - $250 award to a high school senior based on leadership and volunteerism. Students must be planning to continue his/her education. Applications are available in guidance. Applications are due in by May 1, 2017
Elks National Foundation – based on scholarship, leadership and financial need – applications available online; www.elks.org/enf/scholars - due November 30, 2016
Elks Legacy Award – students that are children or grandchildren of Elk member – applications available online: www.elks.org/enf/scholars - due February 3, 2017
Empire State Potato Growers Scholarship – $500 Agr major with a strong academic record and community service. $500 – application available on line: www.nypotatoes.org- due January 15, 2017
Epilepsy Foundation - $1000 student being treated for Epilepsy and plan to attend college. Application available in guidance and are due May 1, 2017
FASNY Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Scholarship Program – student or parent must be member of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York and student must be a volunteer firefighter or EMS. Application available on line www.fasny.com Due March 15, 2017
Fort Edward Historical Association Senior Art Show and Scholarship – Various prizes for seniors. Applications available in guidance and are due April , 2017
Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education Center - Students in Washington County entering an approved healthcare related program in the fall. There are (10) $500 scholarships available. Applications are available in the guidance office and are due 5/1/17.
Hudson River Community Credit Union Scholarship - Students must be a member of the credit union. Applications available in guidance and are due April 1, 2017
Modern Woodmen of America – Vermont residents that plan to continue their education 2/4 yr college. Applications are available in Guidance. Applications due May 1st, 2017
New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs – Students that have been active in local fairs and intend to pursue a degree. Applications must be downloaded from the NYSAAF website, www.nyfairs.org.
New York Water Environment Association – Students planning to enroll in an Environmental Studies program. Applications available on line www.nywea.org
New York State Society of Professional Engineers’ - Student’s majoring in engineering. $1,000 to $3,000. Applications are available through the capital district chapter at http://www.capdistpe.org/fldweb/schol.htm . There are also engineering scholarships available through the National Society of Professional Engineers and information can be found at http://www.nspe.org/Students/Scholarships/index.html. Applications due March 4, 2017.
NYSUT Retiree Council 10 Scholarship – Students majoring in education can apply. One $500 award given to student in each of four counties (Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Washington). Applications due March 29, 2017 and are available at http://rc10.ny.aft.org.
Phi Beta Kappa – (2) $750 awards for high school students in the top 10% of their class. Applications available at http://uhpbk.org.
Phi Delta Kappa Award – scholarship for prospective educators. Applications available in guidance and are due March 1, 2017
Pride Center Youth Scholarship – (4) awards of up to $2,500. This award is for lesbian, gay, bisexual and allied (LGBTQA) high school students. Applications available on line www.capitalpridecenter.org
PTA Jenkins Memorial Scholarship – Students majoring in education – applications available on line at http://www.nyspta.org/awards/jenkins.cfm
Saratoga Hospital Guild – Students planning to major in a health related field that have earned an 80%+ GPA and active in community service. Applications available on line at www.saratogahospital.org. Appllication due March 31, 2017.
Schuylerville Community Theater – For students pursuing a degree in musice, drama, dance or theater arts. Applications available at www.scttheater.org
William Morehouse Scholarship – students studying construction – applications available online: www.nysba.com/ref
TCT Credit Union – $500 or $1000 - Student must be member of credit union – applications available in guidance – due Jan. 2017
Tri-County Branch Woman’s National Farm and Garden - $400 – Student majoring in an agricultural, environmental, forestry, horticultural or oceanographic related field. Applications available in guidance and us due before May 1st 2017.
Vermont Student Assistance Corp.- VSAC is for Vermont residents only. Please access the website for scholarship information available to Vermont students only. www.vsac.org
Washington County Association of Street and Highway Officials - $2000 – student majoring in Engineering (priority given to civil engineering majors) must be a resident of Washington County. Applications are available in the guidance office and are due May 1, 2017
