Salem Central High School's Environmental Science students created powerpoint presentations to educate elementary students on turtles. Topics included the proper techniques for helping turtles cross the road safely, types of turtles found in our environment, what turtles eat, how long they live, and what their natural habitats are. The high school students also explained why wild turtles are to stay wild and how they differ from the ones at pet stores.

The student presenters were as follows: Hope Glover, Eli Truehart, Lily Gallagher, Briseida Aguero, Jacob Lisowski, Charlie Myler, Daryll Spencer, Jerry Bice, Damon Ferguson, and Keavah Smith.

The group then introduced the elementary students to four classroom turtles and explained how they are cared for, what turtles eat, how much each turtle has grown in size and weight, how old each turtle is, how to properly pick up a turtle, and why you must always wash your hands after handling a turtle.

The environmental students answered all the questions posed by both staff members and the students. This was a wonderful opportunity for high school students to work with the elementary, and a great chance for their younger peers to learn and practice good listening skills.
