Salem Central School is pleased to announce the following awards given to members of the Class of 2018.  The Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award (sponsored by the University of Rochester)  is given to the member of the junior class with the highest achievement in science and high math scores on the PSAT or SAT.  This year’s nominee is Scout Fronhofer.  Scout will be offered a fee-waived application for admission to the University of Rochester.  Upon completion of the application, Scout will be considered a candidate for the Bausch and Lomb Science Scholarship, which has a four-year total to be determined by the University of Rochester.   Scout is also this year’s Rensselaer Medalist selection.  The Rensselaer medal has been awarded by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for over 100 years.  This award is given to a student in the top 10% of his/her class who has the highest math and science average.  Each nominee will receive a certificate and the medal is awarded at an open house to students that have chosen to apply to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and have been accepted.  Each accepted medalist will receive a minimum of $25,000.00 each year and it is guaranteed for four years.

Scout also has been nominated for the Student Sage Award.  Scout was nominated for this award based on her academic performance, motivation and strong leadership skills.  She will receive a certificate from the Sage College, the Student Sage pin and the opportunity to compete for a scholarship at the Sage College of Albany if she chooses to apply. The Sage Award is given to a student that is not just academically talented but one that leads by example. Scout is the daughter of Frank and Laurie Fronhofer of Salem.
