Our Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students recently partook in a worldwide “Hour of Code” to practice skills of computer science and coding. This self-taught annual event focuses on problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity while building 21st-century skills for students.

Run by Salem Librarian, Karen Fronhofer, the “Hour of Code” is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code" and prove that anybody can learn the basics.

This is the third consecutive year that Salem students have participated in the event. While the event may only last an hour, it is fun and creative experience that encourages an interest in coding and provides a less intimidating way enter the field of computer science.
