On Wednesday, June 6th, 2018, 32 students in grades 4-8 from 19 school districts competed in the 40th annual regional spelling bee at Maple Avenue Middle School. The spelling bee was hosted by WSWHE BOCES and the Junior Chamber International Saratoga Springs Jaycees.

The event was sponsored by Northshire Bookstore, Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), and Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom. The top 6 spellers were awarded gift cards to Northshire Bookstore, the second place winner, tickets to a SPAC Ballet performance, and first place, tickets to Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom in Lake George. The p-r-e-s-s-u-r-e was on as these students spelled challenging words such as “quota, hyena, jackknife, and eaves.”

Sixth grader, David Gilles, of Salem Central represented our district and did an incredible job! He made it a total of 8 difficult rounds. Congratulations, David!
