Welcome to Salem Central School!

UPDATE: 10:29 a.m.
This morning the district received a walk-up report that there was an individual in camouflage on EAST Broadway walking in the direction of the school carrying a firearm. Out of an abundance of caution and for the safety of our students and staff, we initiated our lock-out procedure and law enforcement was contacted immediately. At the time of the call, New York State Troopers were in Salem and responded to the call. An additional New York State Trooper and deputy from the Washington County Sheriff's department also responded, and indicated that the area was clear.
At that point, we returned to our regular school schedule.

A lock-out procedure means all entrances are secured, while allowing instruction to continue in our classrooms. The procedure worked very smoothly thanks to the efforts of the district faculty, staff, and students. Thank you to  the New York State Troopers and Washington County Sheriff's Department for the quick response and assistance.

equity meeting

Thank you to our community members and students who took time to attend "A Conversation About Racial Equity" on the evening of Monday, October 21. Former Vermont NEA President, Martha Allen, presented the documentary, I am from Here, and facilitated a discussion about race and equity. The public forum was a great start to a healthy conversation for the school and community that ensures a sense of accepting of all is being cultivated throughout.
